img way tahrirCFI organised a 1-week, initial hands-on training course in e-journalism for young Egyptian journalists.

This workshop took place at a crucial moment for Egyptian media, especially for young journalists from social and interactive media facing many political and social events in the coming weeks and months.

For a week, 12 Egyptian journalists from the independent press, radio stations and TV channels (Yom7, Al Ahram, Elshorouk, Elmasry Elyoum, Radio Hoqook, Semat etc.) led by three French journalists, Valérie Smith Defournier (free-lance), Marco Nassivera (Arte) and Benoît Califano (ESJ), examined the global media concept together: 

-      How to harness new possibilities offered by the web as a journalist
-      How to integrate video, sound, copy and photos to handle a subject and broadcast it on the web
-      How to put together a multimedia report for the web

Marco Nassivera

After studying history and journalism, Marco Nassivera became a free-lance reporter for ARTE in 1992. He was Editorial Manager for the daily 7.30 newscast on Arte from 1995 to 1998. In 1998, he joined the editorial teamof the magazine ARTE Reportage for which he became Chief Editor in 2001.For CFI, he has participated in several training courses in Montpellier, Tunis and now Cairo.


Benoît Califano

Journalist anddocumentary filmmaker for TV and radio, Benoît Califano has worked for Arte, France 5and France Inter. Director of the Higher School of Journalism Lille-Montpellier since 2007, he also provides training for theESJ,the Advanced Training Centre for Journalists andClemi, a French state school. Benoit took part in designing and setting up the 4M project for CFI and has handled training courses in Montpellier, Casablanca, Tunis and now Cairo.


Valérie Smith Defournier

A Master Igraduate from theParisHigher Institute for Training in Journalism(ISFJ), Valérie Smith Defournier has workedas a journalist for TV, thepress and the websince 2005.She has worked forFrance Télévision, TF1 and M6. She has also worked as Chief Editor forEasyvoyage, the French portal specialising in the world of travel and Edito, a bi-monthly fashion magazine.
